K Blundy

WASHINGTON, Ill.  - At a Special Board Meeting held Wednesday, June 23, the Central 51 Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the appointment of Kim Suffield Blundy to the Board of Education.

Amy Johnson, President of the Central 51 Board of Education said, “We are excited to welcome Kim to the school board.  Together we are doing some amazing work and look forward to her input and contributions to our schools.”

The Central 51 Board of Education posted the open seat after the 2021 election due to the district having four open seats and only three candidates on the ballot.  This required the Board of Education to fill the vacancy by appointment. Three candidates completed the application process and were interviewed by the Board on June 7, 2021.  Mrs. Blundy was then selected by the Board for the appointment.

Mrs. Blundy is a life-long resident of Washington, IL and is a graduate of Washington Central District 51 and Washington Community High School.  She attended Bradley University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and was also a member of Bradley’s softball team.  She continued her education and received a master’s degree in conservation biology and sustainable development from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.  After completing her graduate degree, Mrs. Blundy worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture before joining Caterpillar in 2007.  She currently serves as an environmental, health, safety and security manager with the Caterpillar at their Mapleton Foundry.  She has served on other organizational committees, including serving as president of Bradley University Varsity Club Athletic Alumni Association for several years.  She is married (John Blundy), has two boys (Jack, age 14 and Tucker, age 11), and an English Bulldog (Colonel).

New Central 51 Board of Education member, Mrs. Blundy, said, “I look forward to working with the superintendent, the school board, teachers, and parents of Central District 51 Schools to continuously improve the education and experience of the students.”

Mrs. Blundy will finish the current term which ends in April 2023.
